Goal: The Public Relations and Information section of the General Bureau of Statistics is a communicative strategic policy instrument, which plays an important role in making and keeping relevant contacts, national and international. Short History In the past the General Bureau of Statistics kept in touch and maintained contacts with relevant relational groups mainly through the different heads of the statistical departments and the secretariat. Because of the enormous gathering of users for statistical information and other social and technological developments there was an increasing need for a focal point within the GBS with regard to the data dissemination and dispatch of data requests. In October 1998 a start could be made with the standardization of the section of Public Relations and Information. By doing this all requests for information are registered and dispatched at a central point. Depending on the type of request it will be dispatched within 1-5 days. The increasing trend in information requests for the last 10 years not only provides a picture of the need for statistical information from the national as well as the international community but may be seen as a signal that there is a possible need for improvement in the way of communicating with relevant target groups.
